Construction and materials

Sea Containers tanks are manufactured under survey by classification societies and under Sea Containers supervision. Particular attention is paid to the standard of finish of the interior surfaces of the tanks, especially on IMO 2 and Non-Hazardous types, both of which are commonly used for edible products and other liquids requiring a high standard of cleanliness.

Tank shells are made from austenitic stainless steel, fully butt-welded and with dished ends. They are designed in accordance with the ASME VIII Pressure Vessel Design Code.

Capacities

Capacities are approximately 17,500, 20,000, 21,000, 23,000 and 24,000 litres.

Heating

Certain types of tanks are insulated and fitted with steam or electric heating systems with maximum working temperatures ranging from 100 to 120 deg C.

Classification

Hazardous class tanks conform to the advisory and mandatory requirements of internationally recognized codes, in particular the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG). It is from this code that the generally accepted tank container classification has been taken, namely IMO 1, IMO 2, IMO 5.
